Vision21

Two of Vision 21’s trustees were asked to write a chapter for a book for sustainability educators entitled ‘The Handbook of Sustainability Literacy – Skills for a changing world’.

An introduction to the book, says: ‘In this groundbreaking book, leading sustainability educators are joined by permaculturists, literary critics, ecologists, artists, journalist, engineers, mathematicians and philosophers in a deep reflection on skills people need to survive and thrive in the challenging conditions of the 21st century. Responding to the threats of climate change, peak oil, resource depletion, economic uncertainty and energy insecurity demands the utmost in creativity, ingenuity and new ways of thinking in order to reinvent both self and society.

The photograph was taken at the Heathrow Climate Camp, an example of low-carbon off-grid living.

The protestors have the Tyndall Centre report on aviation taped to their hands; the banner reads: ‘We are armed… only with peer-reviewed science’ and the shields to protect them from riot police are faces from the majority world, who are already being affected by climate change, caused by our greenhouse gas emissions.
